1/6 WWR Medic Bertie Custom
This was an idea I’ve had ever since I started getting into collecting the World War Robot figures from ThreeA. I love their Medic bots and figures and up until recently the only 1/6 Medics available were the Dropcloth and Square. So I tracked down an original Desert Combat Bertie for cheap and a WWRp 1/12 Large Martin. The Large Martin was sacrificed in order to give the Bertie his much needed feet. The Bertie Mk1 was peg legged, and with the release of the Bertie Mk2 (Never available in 1/6 scale) feet were added.
I then drew up a set of decals in Illustrator and had them printed up on waterslide paper by SamuelDecal. Once everything had arrived, I cut the feet off of the Large Martin and pinned them to the legs of the Bertie. After removing the arms with a little bit of heat from a hair dryer all of the parts were primed and prepped for paint. I then put down a base coat of dark grey and then gave a light coat of off white. Then using some hairspray as a binding agent I coated the areas I wanted worn with rock salt and then sprayed the final coat of off white to cover. Decals were then applied, and torn up according to the weathering, and then sealed with a gloss coat.
The final step was several oil washes and then a flat coat to seal everything in. After the flat coat had dried, I went back and dry brushed a bit of silver on the extra worn areas.
The backpacks were bought online and then painted dark brown to match the bags included with the figure. I then dusted all of the gear with some pigments from MIG and Bertie was finished!
