PAINT! So this weekend I started painting. I am working on getting all of the left leg parts done for now. I have all of the parts painted, and all of the external armor parts have been shaded and gloss coated. So far everything is looking awesome, and I can’t wait to get started on the right leg. Colors for the external armor parts are the same I used on the Sazabi and it looks fantastic yet again.

This past weekend, and tonight were spent working on getting the arms assembled. The left one is pretty much all finished up with the exception of a few small items, and the right arm frame is assembled. The kit is starting to look even better now that the arms are getting closer to be finished up.

1/35 EX-S base sketch

So in planning for the massive 1/35 EX-S commission I have upcoming, I told the owner I would sketch out my idea for the base I want to build for it. The idea is to use two sheets of acylic, one clear and one a light blue, and fasten them together using some polished aluminum or stainless steel bolts. The suit would then be held up by a central 3″ acrylic rod with 2 supporting 2″ rods coming at angles from the back corners.

This is just my first rough sketch, but it gives the owner a visual of what I am thinking so we can start planning for it. In order to properly assemble the massive EX-S I have to have the base built first, since it cannot stand on its own.

Assembly on this monster continued this weekend and the kit is not almost completely assembled. All that’s left is both of the arms and then its on to the gun and shield. The backpack went together well, although it does add a ton of weight to the back of the kit. The torso and chest internals will need to be epoxied for final assembly otherwise it will not hold the weight. I also started cleaning up the panel lines on the parts, and even shot a bit of primer on the center crotch armor. After the panel lines were cleaned up I added a few small details, and drilled the holes for where the stainless steel beads are going to be once completed. Overall the kit is coming together great, and looks SO awesome with all of the armor on.

This weekend was spent finishing up the final assembly of the backpack and some small remaining parts on the torso. After I had finished the assembly I broke the kit back down and started working on prepping the parts for primer and paint. The left leg is all prepped and the main parts are all primed. I was really happy with how smooth the first spray of primer came out, and it should only need minimal wet sanding before paint.

The plan is to work from the feet/legs up for paint and final assembly. So far everything is coming along very nicely, and I am really looking forward to painting.

Work continued on this weekend with the final parts of assembly and clean up. The last remaining parts of the arms and shoulders were completed, with most of the clean up and sanding getting finished. The next part is the back pack and rear boosters which are coming together nicely. So far I have one of the boosters assembled and the other started. One the back pack is finished all that will remain is the shield and gun. Then its time for priming and painting.

As much as I was frustrated with the internal frame earlier, the kit is coming together really nicely and looks fantastic. I am actually enjoying the build a whole lot more now that I am done with the frame and working on the outer parts.

So this weekend was spent working on getting the torso and head all assembled. Everything fit together great, although the left side armor needs a tiny bit of heating to get it to fit 100%. The kit is looking awesome so far and is HUGE with the upper portion assembled and in place. I still need to put the armor on the legs to see how it all looks together. Clean up and assembly has been going great, and it should be ready for primer soon.

Since the last update I have finished up basic fitment and cleanup on the arm parts and started on the shoulders. The kit is about 75% assembled as of right now and is coming along very nicely. I should hopefully be able to start painting the internal frame by next week if I keep up to this schedule. Parts cleanup shouldn’t take terribly long as I’ve got a good chunk of it done already.

I made some decent progress over the weekend on the Gp03 and was able to get most of the waist section assembled and roughly cleaned up. The biggest part of this weekend was working on getting the massive side skirts assembled and test fit. Once I had them assembled I worked on the final assembly on the waist, and was able to get them pretty much finished up. The photos show the nearly completed right side skirt sans the thrusters (these will have to be expoxied in at final assembly) and a partially assembled left side skirt. The kit is getting so big I had to move it off my normal workbench and onto the table I have in order for me to continue test fitting everything and continuing on with assembly.
